Situation

SaskPower’s head office lobby functions as a prominent arrival space and the first point of contact for visitors. The design team at Stantec envisioned a ceiling feature that would bring warmth and visual movement to the space while supporting acoustic comfort in a large, open environment. The intent was to make the ceiling a defining architectural element—one that delivered both sound absorption and a strong visual statement—without compromising the refined, professional atmosphere of the lobby.

Challenge

The ceiling design featured an irregular footprint with every fin requiring a different length, creating a high level of fabrication complexity. In addition, the design called for a wood appearance on all visible surfaces, including the edges of each fin. Because the fins were manufactured with a single thickness, the acoustic core needed to be completely concealed. Achieving a seamless wood look from every viewing angle while maintaining acoustic performance required a fully customized solution.

Solution

Hush Acoustics engineered a custom Linear Baffle system with a printed wood grain finish applied to both sides of each fin. A thin edge band was applied along the bottom edge to conceal the acoustic core, ensuring visual consistency throughout the installation. Each fin was fabricated to a unique length to follow the flowing ceiling layout, resulting in a highly tailored acoustic solution designed specifically for this space.

Result

The completed ceiling creates an immediate visual impact while providing effective sound absorption within the lobby. The wood-look baffles enhance acoustic comfort without appearing overtly technical, reinforcing the architectural intent of the space. As a focal element in a high-visibility area, the installation demonstrates how acoustic treatments can serve as both functional solutions and defining design features.
